A-line skirt:

The perfect cut for everyone!  This skirt is so versatile, make it longer or shorter, in cotton, wool, twill, rayon … the possiblities are endless.  In this class we will work on understanding a commercial pattern including laying out the pattern pieces, altering the pattern to fit our body type, piecing the garment, making darts, installing an invisible zipper, hemming and attaching a waistband.

Amy Butler’s Barcelona Skirt

This is a cute A-Line skirt made by layering the fabric and leaving the edges raw so that it has a frayed look after washing.  Very cute and practicle for the summer!  We will be inserting a lining, invisible zipper and hemming.  Pattern includes a Apron Overlay which can be made to ‘jazz up’ your new skirt.

Basic Shower Curtain             

Most people think curtains are hard because of all the measuring. Take this class and conquer that fear. We will talk about measurements, buying the right amount of fabric and different type of tabs. We’ll be making a standard size shower curtain, but you’ll also leave with the tools you’ll need to furnish all the windows in your house.

 

Basic T-Shirt:

Learn to make your own knit t-shirt using the serge or over-lock stitch on your conventional machine.  If your machine doesn’t have these stiches plan on using one of ours.  Long sleeve, short sleeve, v-neck or turtleneck, you can never have enough t-shirts.

Body Double

A Body Double is a mold of your own body (kind of like a mannequin) made with a t-shirt , packing tape and you!  If you are looking to improve your sewing, nothing beats having a body double right there to get the best fit.  Much more economical and a lot more accurate then buying a dress form.  This is a Sewtropolis service and appointments must be made in advance.  Plan on spending 2-3 hours being taped and leave with your Body Double (not recommened for use in the carpool lane)

Apron:  
 

 

Love to spend time in the kitchen, why not spice up your kitchen attire with this little number. This apron can be made to look retro or very modern – you decide. If you choose to make your own bias binding be sure to sign up early in order to have your binding ready before class.

Too Hot to Handle Apron
 

 

Bias Skirt                                            

This skirt is flattering for everybody, choose a stripe fabric and use optical illusion to your advantage. We will learn about cutting on the bias, and understanding a commercial pattern. Once you get the hang of this skirt you’ll be making more in no time.

Easy Alterations

  

Tried to alter or mend your own clothes but didn’t know how to go about it? Bring in your items that need repair (up to 5) and we’ll help you figure it all out.  Don’t worry if something seems to hard or involved, just bring everything and we’ll get to what we can, and talk about the rest!

Bean Bag Chair

Terry is back with a fun new Bean Bag Chair project.  Remember how much fun Bean Bag Chairs were?  The kids love them, teens live in them and what college student doesn’t need a comfy chair to study in? In this two part class, Terry will be covering the basic stages during the first class and finishing up during the second class.

Though it’s true you can never have enough handbags, save yourself some money by making this super stylish Marlo Bloom reversible handbag from Heather Bailey. Make one side for work, the other for play!

Scrappy String Quilt:

Have so many leftovers you don’t know what to do with them all?  Try this stash busting Scrappy String Quilt and discover for yourself what all the buzz is about.  Basic rotary cutting will make a fabric prep a snap.  Students will complete a 20″ x 44″ table runner in this class.  Students who wish to make a larger quilt will have the option of making exgtra blocks as homework.  Please note, this is a two session class.

 Tote Bag:  

 

 

 

Also known as the Farmer’s market bag.  Lot’s of people have been asking for the larger bag so for the summer take the Tote Bag class and learn how to make this larger size tote.  Pattern comes in three different sizes – you decide which size will work best for you.  Be the envy at your local farmer’s market! We will practice topstitching, lining and pocket making.

Sewing for Toddlers

Sewing for your toddler can be fun, economical and rewarding and there are some ADORABLE patterns designed for our little ones!  Starting in 2011 Nikol will have a monthly Sewing for Toddler series starting with Oliver + S Sandbox pants.  Dig out your pail and shovel… errr, we mean sewing machine and scissors and let’s get started with these cute pull up pants designed for a boy or a girl.

Hat, Scarves & Mittens

If you follow us on Facebook you’ll know that Emily made the cutest hat & scarf set using polar fleece and ‘snuggle’ fabric from Michael Miller, which our fans loved.  Well now she’s added the mittens and will teach you how to make the whole adorable ensemble in one night.  Can you say quick & easy Holiday gifts? Yoga Pants

Tired of spending big bucks on those great fitting designer yoga pants? Learn how to make your own and still get the great fit while saving some money.   Plan on using a studio machine if your machine doesn’t have a overlock or zig-zag stitch. Namaste!

Pajama Pants:

If you think pants are too hard? Think again!  Pajama bottoms are the perfect start to understanding how to sew pants.  We will take measurements, apply those measurements to a commercial pattern, altering the pant pattern and fitting.  At the end of the class you will have a comfy and cozy pair of pajama bottoms with a good understanding of how to start on a pair of pants.

Sewing Essentials:

If you’ve never used a sewing machine or if you simply need a refresher, this class will build your sewing confidence.  This class introduces you to the anatomy of the sewing machine and how to get started including bobbin winding, threading, stitch slelection and sewing seams.  Put your knowledge into practice with a simple pillowcase.

Zip, Button, Snap:

Just like lion, tigers and bears: zippers, buttons and snaps can be scary.  Arm yourself with the right tools and prepare to conquer these tricky beasts.  We’ll learn about the different types of zippers, button-holes and snaps and along the way we’ll make at least three of these handy pouches which could then be used as makeup bags, wallets, pencil holders, cell phone holders, notions bag, coupon tote….
